Calling on All: Government, Families, and Communities to Send Every Child to School

Education Is a Right — Not a Choice

Calling on All: Government, Families, and Communities to Send Every Child to School

In Kasulu and across Tanzania, too many children still miss out on their right to education. Whether due to poverty, long walking distances, harmful traditions, or lack of awareness, the result is the same: children are left behind.

At Watoto Salama Foundation, we believe that every child belongs in school — not on the street, not in the fields, not at home doing chores.

Why Education Matters — Especially in Rural Communities

When children are educated:

  • They break the cycle of poverty
  • Girls are less likely to be married early
  • Children are less vulnerable to abuse and exploitation
  • Communities develop faster, safer, and smarter

Education is not just a tool. It is protection, empowerment, and opportunity.

The Barriers We Must Break

In Kasulu, we continue to see:

  • Children working instead of studying
  • Girls dropping out due to pregnancy or lack of menstrual care
  • Children with disabilities excluded due to stigma
  • Families unable to afford uniforms or books
  • Parents unaware of their legal responsibility to educate their children

These are not just unfortunate situations — they are violations of a child’s right.

Our Call to Action

To Government Authorities:

  • Ensure free, quality education for all — especially in remote and underserved areas
  • Build more classrooms and recruit qualified teachers
  • Provide support for children with special needs
  • Monitor and follow up on school attendance and dropout cases

To Parents and Guardians:

  • Make education your child’s priority — no excuses
  • Know that education is your duty, not just the government’s
  • Do not allow your child to be married early or sent to work
  • Work with schools, not against them

To Community and Faith Leaders:

  • Speak out publicly in support of education
  • Report when children are out of school
  • Be role models — promote education, especially for girls and children with disabilities

What Watoto Salama Is Doing

In collaboration with local schools, government, and other NGOs, Watoto Salama Foundation is:

  • Reintegrating out-of-school children
  • Providing uniforms, supplies, and emotional support
  • Running awareness campaigns on child rights and education
  • Supporting school clubs and safe spaces for vulnerable learners
  • Training parents and teachers on inclusive education

Together We Can Make a Change

We envision a Kasulu where:

  • Every child is in school
  • No girl is forced into marriage
  • No child with a disability is left behind
  • Parents are proud to send their children to learn

But we cannot do it alone. We need your voice, your action, and your support.

Let’s raise a generation that is educated, empowered, and equipped to build a better Tanzania.
