At Watoto Salama Foundation, we are guided by one truth: every child deserves a fair chance to learn.
Here in Kasulu, Kigoma, we walk alongside children who face overwhelming barriers—poverty, child labour, disability, distance, and gender inequality. And yet, they show up with determination and dreams.
They dream of becoming teachers, doctors, farmers, engineers.
They dream of changing their communities.
They dream of being seen—not just as children in need, but as leaders in the making.
And we believe in those dreams.
Because education is not a gift—it is a right.
The Reality on the Ground
In our communities and many others across Tanzania, children are still denied access to quality education due to:
- Inability to afford school uniforms and materials
- Long, unsafe journeys to classrooms
- Discrimination against children with disabilities
- Girls being pushed out of school due to early marriage or pregnancy
- A lack of inclusive, safe learning environments
At Watoto Salama, we say: this is not acceptable. And it must change.
What We Do at Watoto Salama
Through our child-centered programs, we work every day to remove these barriers. We:
- Support school re-enrollment and provide education kits
- Raise awareness in families and communities about the value of education
- Work to end harmful practices like early marriage and child labour
- Ensure children with disabilities are included and supported
- Train caregivers and teachers to promote child-friendly, protective classrooms
Education transforms lives—and we are here to make sure no child is left behind.
